Carlson Gracie once said, “to be a lion you must train with lions”. We’ve extended that to, if you train like Odin, you will fight like Odin.
Of course, Odin is a Nordic god so how can you train like him? Well, whilst you can’t exactly train with him, you can train with his name on your chest through the new rash guards from Odin Fight Wear. We can’t guarantee it, but we’re sure wearing these rash guard will give you god like powers on the mat As we said, we can’t guarantee it but nevertheless, have a read about Odin Fight Wear and their new ranked rash guards.
Train Like Odin, Fight Like Odin
Odin Fight Wear, has been around for a couple of years now, and made a splash in the marketplace with their first products the Berserkur rash guard and Munin Fight Shorts. Their goal is to create training and lifestyle clothes for practitioners of submission wrestling, grappling, mixed martial arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and combat sports in general. Below, you will find a review of their most recent product, IBJJF approved rash guards!
Odin is based out of Denmark and has a real focus on building products based on their Norse heritage, hence the name Odin. Though they focus on the Nordic countries and Europe, their products are available to be shipped all across the globe!
Now, since I have reviewed their previous products (the Berserkur rash guard, and Munin Fight Shorts and you can find the review at Fight Like Nordic God Odin) I had high expectations for this new rash guard and in this post, I will share the results of my testing.
This IBJJF approved rash guard is made of the highest quality material just like the previous Odin products. Much like the Berserkur rash guard, this product features:
- Anti-rise features in the rubberized elastic waistband and long skirt.
- Printed neck tag to prevent itching and scratching from coarse neck tags.
- Fully sublimated graphics that are dyed into the fabric so no chance of them flaking off.
- A looser “crew-neck” neckline, compared to traditional rash guards for comfort.
- High quality material and stitching.
This rash guard is also 100% IBJJF legal and approved as the rules state that a rash guard must meet the following criteria to be accepted: “Shirt of elastic fabric (clings to body) at a length that covers the shorts’ waist band, of black or white color, and displaying at least 10% of the color of the rank (belt) to which the athlete belongs. Shirts that are 100% the color of the rank (belt) the athlete belongs to are also acceptable”. This rash guard meets all the criteria and will give you no hassle if worn to an IBJJF tournament.
The fabric used for rash guard is of the highest quality and I must say, it fits my body type perfectly. The fabric is tight to the body, but also is not so tight that it restrains your movements. Visually, the design is simple yet fierce, featuring one of Odin’s ravens meshed into the brand name. I have been wearing this rash guard for a month straight and have yet to have the design fade, and the rash guard itself is in like new condition!
I was lucky enough to wear this rash guard while competing and training over the course of the past two months. During this time the rash guard stood up to the test of rigorous two a day training sessions without a single fray in the garment, while always proving easy to wash and never retaining any foreign stench. I also competed three hard matches in the rash guard during the International Sports Grappling Association’s Absolute tournament where I took first place. The anti-rise feature was fully at work as my opponents were grabbing at the rash guard multiple times and it did not rise up a single time (they obviously just wanted to steal it off my back!). Needless to say this rash guard’s place in my collection is as safe as the belt around my waist!
The key to a longevity for any rash guard is to wash it exactly as instructed. If this is done, high quality products like this Odin ranked rash guard will last for years. With the graphics 100% sublimated, there was zero peeling and fading. After much testing, the gear held up like new and there was no issues with durability at all. No loose threads or fraying of any sort. The process I used for washing the rash guard involved washing in cold water with a normal amount of detergent, and then hang drying out doors. It did take a little bit longer to dry off then some of my other rash guards, but I am attributing that to the summer humidity in Florida. After two months of day to day wear this product is in like new condition and could easily be passed for a brand new product. As I stated above, as long as this rash guard is well taken care of, it will last for a long while.
Pros and Cons
- Feels great on the skin.
- Great unique features.
- Top flight material and construction.
- Fully sublimated graphics.
- The anti-rise feature takes some getting used to.
I may be a sucker for Norse mythology, but there is something about the clean and fresh look of Odin Fight Wear. The pros tremendously out weight the cons when it comes to this product and are numerous especially around features, comfort, and quality materials. I’m very excited to see what the future has in store for this company as they are bringing quite unique products into the market. In my opinion, there is no other product like this on the market simply because of the unique design and the overall look and feel.
Hopefully Odin will begin offering sponsorships to the Nordic athletes and help spread the art of Jiu Jitsu across the Nordic countries. There is so much un-tapped talent and athleticism out there that I truly believe this company could help bring Jiu Jitsu to the forefront.
Without a doubt I would recommend this product. So if you love Norse mythology, are of Norse heritage, or just want to sport a great rash guard while winning the IBJJF tournaments, look no further than Odin Fight Wear.
